Via planet python I read of a pythonista and craftsman feed-up with software establishment, and turning away from professional software development; he wants Art and energy back in his code. A brave guy, not afraid of the GIL-Dragons.

I know many people are slowing down and searching for fulfillment where the little things don’t get in the way. Patrick’s choice in this is bar-tending for a living, and coding as part of his life. To me that choice implies lots of beer-tending and not that much/good coding; but working for non-profits, local communities, or just embracing simplicity are also approaches that probably wouldn’t suit me.

I’m trying the Natural Enterprise way, coding and technology for life and profit (mutual and responsible). I stand in the shoulders of those that contribute to Free Software project. My question is how integrate those Free Software coders in a working gift economy. Current donation and micro-payment schemes don’t work; they are good for the middle man but not cost effective for nano-lending (tips, <10$). Maybe an open field for non-currencies,the P2P micro-credits, and fund-raising entities.

• The wise writing from Dave Pollard about Un-learning to play. I find his let-self-change  concept both powerful and poetic. Change is a posibility most of the time.
• Dave also writes about building natural enterprise. How to make a living doing what is relevant.
• The road itself is inspiration: social media, online conversations, blogs, … whatever, just watch your steps.
• People like Crossfit-Hq demostrate the many niches available for meaningful, community-based business.
• Small changes, a word at a time, that invite to change and reflection, ecopreneur, entregreeneur, communities of practice, openspaces.

And from the experiences of people playing with money and free/open software:

• Software as a public good
• The meatcloud manifesto: men trying to tame infrastructures and meatclouds, and making money in the process.
• And learning from the errors of others, never forget that money changes everything.

The guy is Dan Kennedy; “pyramidal scheme”  comes to my mind looking to his offerings. And yet, I’m not myself a experienced salesmen or money-maker,  I can learn something.

A big obstacle to absorb Kennedy’s teachings is his philosophy towards business, money, life, and responsability. Money is paramount and getting it the entrepreneur’s only responsability, everything else is optional or an obstacle. I know: old-fashioned, simple, and doomed to failure in the long run; but maybe it works. I’m calling it marauder ethos and will try to embrace as much of it as possible without losing my own perspective. Couldn’t embrace a corporate or liberal ethos, Marauder Ethos sounds fancier.

I want to build my business around local, sustainable communities, with responsability towards such communities. And here’s the point, there is more money outside of those communities-to-be; money ready for the taken in Kennedy’s terms.

So I will apply that all-for-the-money marauder to the outsiders and use money, experience, and energy to foster the grow of sustainable communities and natural enterprises.

Full of things both small and obvious that are easy to forget. I was reading small snippets. I read little snippets while puppet compiles. Truly  inspiring.

I found it in a moment of recovery, after a week down and worried; thinking, mostly, of the coming job cut. Time to grow and adapt.
